Desolate post-rock from Sólstafir and ex-Pain Of Salvation members. Modern prog fans will already know Addi Tryggvason and Ragnar Zolberg. The Icelandic duo frontman of post-metal idols Sólstafir and the former guitarist of Scandi experimentalists Pain Of Salvation. With Zolberg previously playing live bass for Sólstafir, it was only a matter of time before the two like-minded forward-thinkers bashed their heads together to see what sounds would fall out. Hjartastjaki was written during winter on a broken piano and laments toxic relationships, so things get pretty bleak quickly. Its pensive post-rock delicately layers Tryggvason and Zolberg’s croons on top of twinkling keys and the odd grimy guitar.
