Steven Wilson has curated a collection of songs representing the more forward-thinking side of music in the 1980s. Intrigue: Progressive Sounds In UK Alternative Music 1979-89 will be released on February 10 on Edsel/Demon, in a 58-track edition (four CDs or seven LPs) and 19-track, double vinyl LP. Along with some familiar names – Wire, XTC, Ultravox, Japan, Tears For Fears, Kate Bush, Twelfth Night and Cardiacs among them – Wilson also draws on some post-punk bands you might find in Prog’s ‘It’s Prog Jim’ column, such as Gang Of Four, The Durutti Column, TheSpecials, The Cure and A Certain Ratio.
