Tool have come a long way from the alt-metal agitants that emerged from Los Angeles in the early 1990s, but the provocateur spirit still looms large as they take the stage at California’s Power Trip festival. After three days of bells-and-whistles rock’n’roll from some of the planet’s biggest rock and metal bands – in near 40-degree heat, no less – ponderous, meditative prog might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but certainly makes for a transcendent experience amid the mountain and desert views.
