Gavin Miller’s electronic post-rock project expands its vision for minimalism.
There’s active, there’s prolific, and then there’s whatever the hell “making 17 albums in 15 years” is. As stacked as Gavin Miller’s CV is, though (and that’s not even factoring in all the EPs, singles and live shows), what’s even more impressive is the musical growth across those releases.
His 2009 debut, Arrivals, was purely electronic minimalism. Compare that with Ricochet, which adds guitar, bass, and acoustic percussion to the mix, letting it soothe and hypnotise in a different ways. Fremdkörper and Hidden Images feel the most familiar, the former pulsing so smoothly and gently that it would feel at home on Massive Attack’s Mezzanine album.
