British progger sees darkness yet aspires for the light. Andy Foster’s third album under the Kite Parade banner was conceived during lockdown. Reflecting on the dislocation and isolation the multi-instrumentalist saw around him, he expands here on themes such as divides in wealth and power, the destructive impacts of untreated mental health and the grind of “just managing”. Disparity runs the gamut from the funky pop-rock of This World Is Mine, which captures the arrogance of a city trader, to the bubbling bass and synth atmospherics of the more hopeful Make It Beautiful. Guests on the album include Magenta’s Christina Booth, who embodies the quiet struggle of Is This All There Is?’s protagonist, and Exploring Birdsong’s Lynsey Ward, with an emotive turn on Broken.
