New Horizons

Former Black Midi guitarist and vocalist Geordie Greep has broken his silence with his debut solo album, The New Sound. It’s an ambitious project that’s seen him travelling between London and São Paulo to record with more than 30 musicians. Prog pops round for tea to discuss creative freedom, The Blue Nile and injecting humour into dark themes.

“Black Midi was always meant to have an element of humour, but a lot of people didn’t get it. So I just thought, ‘Let’s make it as clear as possible.’” Talking with Geordie Greep is time well spent. Not only does his brain operate at a head-spinning pace as he ponders the creation of his solo debut, The New Sound; the role of humour in his music; the use of characters to explore the worst aspects of masculinity and the freedoms he’s now afforded in the wake of Black Midi’s demise, he also makes a damn fine cup of tea.
