An “oscillation of comedy, drama and romance” beckons on Londoners’ third LP.

Melding indie, prog, fusion and math rock, London musicians Black Midi will release their third album Hellfire via Rough Trade on July 15. Frontman Geordie Greep admits that it is a typically“complex” album from the band, but adds that it’s also“more theatrical, open and silly”. “There’s no reason why you can’t have the fun, Harry Hill stuff in with the Wagner and Stravinsky stuff,” he says, referencing wacky UK comedian Hill and two of music’s most serious minds. “We wanted to take all the things we’ve enjoyed and experienced and try and make something that’s actually representative of what we enjoy as a whole.” Featuring 10 new tracks, the new album builds on the songwriting process of 2021’s Cavalcade.
