UK duo Hats Off Gentlemen It’s Adequate will release their sixth album, The Confidence Trick, on July 29 through their own label, Glass Castle Recordings.
The follow-up to 2020’s well-received Nostalgia For Infinity has its thematic roots in singer Malcolm Galloway’s former career as a neuropathologist. “I became very interested in how people make mistakes in diagnosis,” he tells Prog. “A big, common problem in medicine – and life – is overconfidence, excessive certainty. Another is that we assume confident people are competent. Sometimes that leads to medical problems, but it can also lead to war and atrocities.”
Galloway’s joined once again by bandmate Mark Gatland and flautist Kathryn Thomas, with one notable piece, Refugee, inspired by Galloway’s grandmother’s extraordinary story of hiding from Nazi persecution through World War Two.…
