New Zealand guitarist and self-professed “purveyor of tritonal wankery”, Matt Deacon returns for his ninth album as The Bob Lazar Story. The Bob Lazarus Chronicles Pt.1: Foodstool Resurrection (theboblazarstory.bandcamp.com) is just Deacon himself armed with guitar, Minitaur bass box, Moog-style synths and drum machine for a short set of cheeky, fusion-flavoured instrumentals with hints of Zappa, Cardiacs, Holdsworth, even John Carpenter. It’s bitty (pieces clock in between 27 seconds and three minutes), but still packs a pleasingly dissonant punch.
