Summit KARISMA Norway’s lords of jazz prog madness return. After a seven-year gap, these purveyors of heavy, jazz-powered skronk have re-emerged, sounding more bug-eyed than ever. Summit comprises four expansive exercises in dark prog insanity, with all the warped time signatures, sax lines and wilful obtuseness that made Seven Impale’s two previous albums such a wonky joy. This time, songs such as the slow-burning, melodramatic Hunter seem less bound to complexity than they are to an atmosphere of controlled chaos. It veers off course halfway through, into a chattering cacophony that eventually morphs into a series of bewildering riffs, with guitar, sax and keyboards in breathless unison.
