This British collective use words such as “epic”, “symphonic” and “inventiveness unbound” to describe their debut album, but it’s hard to pinpoint the justification for such labels. There are undoubtedly major Pink Floyd influences threaded throughout, as evidenced by the slow-burning title track and the Gilmour-esque guitar solo that appears in Holy Blues. But “epic”? Maybe not. Instead, Airwaves delivers classy if predictable middle-of-the-road prog. Egyptian marries floaty late 60s psych-pop with a slight Latin edge, while the entirely self-explanatory Gospel contains passing nods to Americana.
