Le Memoires Des Orages SUB ROSA A head-spinning concoction with no unpleasant side effects. Belgian octet Ogives are probably best thought of as an act of liberation rather than something resembling the orthodoxy of a band setup. Eschewing rock’s basic songwriting structures gives Ogives the freedom to explore musical regions that might otherwise be left untouched or even forgotten. In doing so, Le Memoires Des Orages (‘The Memory Of Storms’) is an active and intriguing experience that kicks any notions of passivity by the listener into the long grass. Barriers are removed as volume, chamber music, pummelling rhythms and ancient choral traditions are thrown into the mix; nothing is off limits.
