Mirror In The Darkness MEDEVIL.BANDCAMP.COM Canadian metallers take the prog train for their second outing. Medevil’s debut album, 2016’s Conductor Of Storms, was praised by fans of contemporary progressive metal for its maturity and bruising riffage. The commitment to the heavy end of things hasn’t disappeared here on the long-awaited follow-up, but what has developed is a more rounded approach and the blossoming of more obviously progressive elements. Those bludgeoning riffs and urgent, growled vocals are still in evidence on Mirror In The Darkness’ opening two tracks. Then comes Pray For Me, which introduces atmospherics and a chorus that could easily find its way onto a Dream Theater record, and the odd time signatures and orchestral sections of The Signal, with its lyrical reflections on self-awareness and mortality.
