Karmanjakah return with a four-track EP following their well-received self-titled debut back in 2016 and 2021’s full-length, A Book About Itself. Opener Breathing lays down the template for the Swedes’ quiet/loud dynamic. Acoustic guitar explodes into a thunderous pattern of drums, deep bass and electric guitar, lulling into softer interludes. Even in its heavier moments, however, the four-piece never lose sight of an arresting melody, and the vocals of lead singer Jonas Lundquist perfectly suit this balance of power and finesse. Flying showcases the band’s ability towhip up an interesting and layered soundscape. It’s another driving, powerful piece that benefits from repeated plays.
