Subterranea Live GEP Neo-prog perennials’ 2011 performance of 1997 album reborn on triple vinyl. It’s an oft-stated ambition of bands to recreate the potency of their live sound in the studio, but it’s seldom achieved. There’s a kinetic energy in the air at a live show that somehow galvanises the music in a way it rarely does within the confines of best live albums manage to capture something of that extra magic, and when IQ’s performance of their 1997 double album Subterranea in the Netherlands in 2011 was recorded, they evidently hit that sweet spot. Originally livestreamed during lockdown in 2020 in place of the band’s traditional Christmas show, it has now finally made it onto a handsome triple vinyl gatefold package.
