North Star TOFF RECORDS Beautiful mini-album from Nick Barrett’s prog institution. Pendragon’s Nick Barrett originally started writing the music on this beautiful mini-LP with a view to making an album with John Barnfield, the band’s original keyboardist. “Then I panicked,” Barrett says, “and thought, ‘Jeez, Pendragon really needs to get something out.’ So I told John I needed to nab the material back for the ol’ Dragon!” “Brimming with life-affirming music, it’s a band on fine form.” It’s probably for the best. Mixed and mastered by Karl Groom, North Star finds the quartet – singer/guitarist Barrett, keyboardist Clive Nolan, bassist Peter Gee and drummer Jan Vincent Velazco – in strong yet mellow mode. Their first release since 2020’s Love Over Fear comprises just four songs, but they’re very good ones.…
