Norway’s prog outfit Motorpsycho will follow their sprawling albums Ancient Astronauts and Kingdom Of Oblivion with what’s being pithily billed as a“short, reasonably pop-formatted and intimate album of mainly acoustically based songs”. Yay! will be released on June 16 internationally via Stickman, and in the UK through the band’s own label, Det Nordenfjeldske Grammofonselskab.
The 10-track set stems from sessions the band recorded in their rehearsal room in winter 2021, when the pandemic had scuppered other plans. “For two months we recorded as many of the shorter, less opulently arranged, less improvisational, less progressive and decidedly less epic song ideas we had accumulated,” they say. “Acoustic guitars prevailed. So did hand percussion and congas. What emerged was a gentle creature, but still a full-on Motorpsycho album.”
