Electronic artist Steve Roach discusses Phaedra’s ambient legacy.

A two-time Grammy Award nominee, composer Steve Roach is one of the most influential ambient artists working today. In 2023, he was personally invited to join the current line-up of Tangerine Dream onstage for two dates of their North American tour. He’d been a fan since the band’s earliest days. “As a young guy,” he says, “I was already immersing myself in those long-form pieces that so many of us connected to in the 70s. It had such a feeling of mystery. The allure of it was just fascinating. There’s an expansiveness that affects your consciousness.
