He’s the remixer du jour and spacial audio specialist of choice for left-field artists, but even Steven Wilson found it a challenge to remix Phaedra. In 2018, the No-Man and Porcupine Tree leader was invited to revisit the album using the original master tapes and, as he tells us, it was a very rewarding process. How did your involvement in remixing Phaedra come about? The guy who was curating for the Tangerine Dream box set [2019’s In Search Of Hades] is a lovely chap called Mark Powell. He knew I was a big fan and asked me. He said: “We’ve got some multitrack tapes for Phaedra.” Actually, they didn’t have it all, they only had side one, but they also found some other tapes that had never been mixed from…
