Bjørn Riis, best known as guitarist with Norwegian proggers Airbag, has announced the release of his fifth solo album. Fimbulvinter is out on April 11 via Karisma and is the first release under his own name since the EP, A Fleeting Glimpse, which came out at the tail end of 2022. Fimbulvinter is named after the long, hard winter that heralds Ragnarök in Norse mythology – a time of great destruction and the eventual rebirth of the world. The concept reflects Riis’s own experiences with anxiety as he tackles the topics of hopelessness, paranoia and despair before finding hope. “This isn’t an autobiographical album,” Bjørn explains, “but I wanted to share parts of my own journey and address a subject that I feel is both deeply important and still somewhat…
