MICHAEL WOODMAN TEAMS UP WITH TORABI ON SOLO LP

Occult coincidences and hauntology influence the album.

Thumpermonkey singer-guitarist Michael Woodman has announced the release of his latest solo album Hiss Of Today on April 26, which is his first for Gong/The Utopia Strong guitarist Kavus Torabi’s Believers Roast label. Preceding the album on March 12 is lead single, Lychgate, where the mercurial Torabi lends his six-string skills According to Woodman, the album was inspired by a bizarre discovery: “William Robert Woodman, one of the founding members of the occult society Hermetic Order Of The Golden Dawn, not only shared my surname but also died on the same date as my birthday,” says Woodman. “Hiss Of Today is equal parts nostalgic hauntology, tales of cursed ZX Spectrum tapes and hallucinated eight-bit lore.” He adds, “The album entangles restless analogue-synth entities with lo-fi motorik percussion, part-60s baroque chamber…
