Twin Zappa archive gigs showcase the evolution of a rarely heard touring band. The latest of a seemingly endless series of releases from Frank Zappa’s estate, Zappa 80: Mudd Club/Munich delivers two concert performances over three discs featuring a line-up that only existed as a touring unit for around five months and has been represented in a mere handful of tracks available previously. Backed by Ike Willis and Ray White on vocals, Arthur Barrow on bass, Tommy Mars on keyboards and new recruit drummer David Logeman, the first disc here features Zappa’s outing to the 240-capacity Mudd Club in New York City in May 1980.
