Four-CD set that should elevate Jade Warrior into the prog pantheon. Towards the end of Clouds on Jade Warrior’s 1974 album Floating World, Jon Field plays a short quote on flute from Claude Debussy’s symphonic poem Prélude À L’Après Midi D’Un Faune. It may be a piece of musical drollery, but then the 19th-century French composer and Jade Warrior have both been inspired by ideas from Eastern music and culture and incorporated them into a highly personal style. Yet rather than just purveying a kind of prog Chinoiserie, Jade Warrior produced a hybrid unlike any of their 70s peers. Flautist/multi-instrumentalist Field and guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Tony Duhig recorded three albums for Vertigo, split in 1973, but reformed in 1974 and secured a deal with Island Records partly on the recommendation…
