Brassy London collective Perhaps Contraption last appeared in Prog with their 2016 album Mud Belief, and their latest release, Nearly Human (perhapscontraption.co.uk), is an even more delightful collision of performance art, choral music, Canterbury/Knifeworld-esque prog and Penguin Café experimentalism. Performed with vigour, thought and conviction, this beautifully rendered meditation on the life cycle of an atom accompanies the Contraption’s gig/theatre show of the same name, which they performed at the Edinburgh Fringe. The record genuinely does spark thoughts about just what we are, and what we’re made of.
