Retro-leaning hug of an album from ex-Kentish Spires keyboardist. A Parkinson’s diagnosis in 2021 led to multi-instrumentalist Rik Loveridge leaving his band, The Kentish Spires, to make his debut solo album. Taking cues from early-70s prog in general and the Canterbury scene in particular, Prog Nosis evokes sounds and feels of yesteryear. Kentish Spires fans will recognise reworked versions of that band’s songs in the mostly languid, piano- and sax-drenched 19-minute suite of Trilogy. Guest guitarist Nick Fletcher contributes some beautiful work to many tracks here, including the spacious instrumentals West Coast Journeyman and Dark Matter. Elsewhere, there’s an environmental focus to the understated balladry of Silent Spring and Nature’s Eyes and the soothing ambiance of Teed’s Lullaby eases us towards the album’s close.
