Floyd-channelling Germans are back with a criminally good record. In the years since their 2000 debut God Has Failed, these German proggers have shown that they know their way around a concept album. For their eighth studio record, RPWL are turning to crime. Crime Scene draws on notorious real-life characters such as cannibal Karl Denke and necrophile Carl Tanzler. But such macabre themes slide by nicely thanks to Yogi Lang’s likeable, unforced vocal style, and, as a listening experience, it’s the sound of four blokes making a genteel, 80s-tinged, post-Floyd racket. Opener and lead single Victim Of Desire is a dramatic, symphonic piece armed with Kalle Wallner’s grandstanding guitar work and Lang’s sweeping keys (the expensive-looking video is well worth YouTubing too).
