Cheltenham pair spike their folk flavours with a touch of acid. Marvin B Naylor and Rebsie Fairholm have made some seriously haunting folk music together in recent years, with a penchant for unusual instrumentation ranging from psalteries to electric guitars played with bows. They’re also fans of 60s psychedelia, as the name of this project suggests, and their debut set under that moniker is as an intoxicating a confection. The trippiness of Captain Digorie Piper His Galliard is enhanced by the use of medieval reed instrument the cornamuse, and the sweet acoustic reverie Venus Blue is decorated with a harp-like instrument that lends the whole affair the feel of a deleted dream scene from The Wicker Man.
