Drummer Jimmy Pallagrosi leads his band back to the future. With the second album from Zio, drummer and bandleader Jimmy Pallagrosi takes the listener on a whistle-stop tour of progressive rock in the 1980s, from neo-prog to prog-pop and Pink Floyd. He’s supported in this endeavour by a cast of seven vocalists, including Eric Gillette from NMB, It Bites/Frost* frontman John Mitchell, and Hayley Griffiths. Truewaves captures the era when synthesisers took over from Moogs and Mellotrons, combined with a sense of drama that draws on musical theatre and Jim Steinman’s operatic rock. “A whistle-stop tour of 80s prog, from neo-prog to prog-pop.” The album opens with a little spoken prelude to set up the concept, although quite what constitutes a ‘Truewave’ is distinctly hazy.
