Neo-proggers’ late-career revival continues apace. When the neo-prog scene of the 1980s is mentioned, this Hertfordshire band sometimes slip away, forgotten among the mentions of Marillion, Pallas, Pendragon, IQ et al. But their work from back then is just as worthy of rediscovery, and in recent years they’ve enjoyed a creative rebirth that continues with this sixth album. “It blends knotty prog tropes with broad, melodic strokes.” Back in the 80s, Solstice’s connections with the free festival scene saw them positioned towards the hippie end of the neo-prog spectrum, while others attempted to create a more soft-rock-friendly style, but this, their second record with vocalist Jess Holland, does a good job of blending fusion and knotty prog tropes with broad, immediate melodic strokes.
