Digging into the outer limits of alt-metal. Nineties alt-metal meets post-rock on the fifth album from Suns Of The Tundra. The Only Equation has a heavier, denser sound than 2019’s Murmuration. Vocally, Simon Oakes sits somewhere between Perry Farrell of Jane’s Addiction and Peter Gabriel, although The Only Equation is weightier than anything from either artist. Suns Of The Tundra grew out of Peach, which split when Justin Chancellor left to join Tool, and it’s easy to see the overlap between those worlds as the twisting, articulate bass lines feature prominently in the mix (this album includes band members past and present, with Andy Marlow and Rob Havis sharing the bass duties).
