Dutch veterans wrestle with contentious real world subject matter. Although their members have many years of experience behind them individually, Crossing Borders is the debut release under the Sound Of Strangers banner. Quite bravely, given the often divisive nature of the subject matter, this is a concept album built around the story of one family’s experiences as refugees and the struggles and danger faced by the displaced and the desperate. They wear their influences openly throughout. Ocean Sky hints at both Pink Floyd and the lighter side of Rush. Vocalist Serge Mannee’s delivery brings to mind Fish on Endless Night and Fire And Ice, and the title track similarly evokes the neoprog of the likes of early IQ and even Twelfth Night.
