Norwegian retro proggers explore the art of dance. There’s never a shortage of bands attempting to recreate the fusty wonder of progressive rock circa 1971, but few, if any, have done it with such wild-eyed abandon as Ring Van Möbius. The brainchild of Thor Erik Helgesen – formerly known for several adventurous black metal records under the name Throne Of Katarsis – the Norwegians have released two superb studio albums to date, exhibiting rather more than a gift for mimicry along the way. “They’ve brought 1971 flailing and shrieking into the present again.” The band have never hidden their love of Van der Graaf Generator, but both debut album Past The Evening Sun and its follow-up, The 3rd Majesty, were bulging with mad ideas and a gleeful sense of musical…
