Immaterial Possession are an intriguing bunch. Formed in Atlanta by Madeline Polites and Cooper Holmes, who met in an artists commune, the line-up also includes multi-instrumentalist Kiran Fernandes (son of Olivia Tremor Control’s John Fernandes). Very fine second album Mercy Of The Crane Folk (Fire) often feels like a deep psychedelic dream, with Polites sounding like Grace Slick’s less voluble little sister. They’re also partial to the odd Latin-American vamp and excursions into the kind of noirish trip-funk more associated with Khruangbin. Montreal septet Teke::Teke take a busier approach on spectacular second effort Hagata (Kill Rock Stars).
