Two-CD/Blu-ray set captures neo-prog quartet on vibrant form. Given the average prog musician’s high regard for technical excellence and sonic perfection, there’s always a danger that a desire to achieve a note-perfect performance might take the edge off a live show, and any recording of said event might add a further layer of production sheen. Thankfully the 10 tracks captured here at Bath Komedia in November 2022 seem to be imbued with a striking extra urgency that makes Island Live an often exhilarating experience. Particularly breathtaking are the intensity of opener Day And Age and the techno rock avalanche at the start of Dead Days, but also impressive is the way the jazz rock angularities of Hyperventilate sound thrilling rather than just clever in this live setting.
