The opening notes of free-floating instrumental La Femme D’Argent breathe out, unhurried, and instantly a rapt Albert Hall is transported back to 1998, when Air’s breakthrough, Moon Safari, was ubiquitous. Essentially the The Dark Side Of The Moon of chillout, it spawned a glut of imitations, none of which caught its alchemical blend of space rock and electronica, nor its subtle licks of krautrock and psychedelia. The French duo wrapped all these elements in a digestible tablet, then garnished that with an innate grasp of what made Gainsbourg’s Histoire De Melody Nelson transcend genres.
