It’s a one-band show tonight, with the self-described “Cornish hippies” wanting to keep their first independently organised tour simple. Despite their late arrival after a protracted drive up from the capital, where they successfully packed out the Old Church in St Pancras the night before, they make it onstage for the penultimate date of what’s been an experimental tour for the prog-folk outfit.
Their performance, upstairs in a Northern Quarter bar beneath a stained glass chandelier, may have felt like something of a comedown with the audience numbers somewhat sparse as they roll into the ever-classy Gold. Yet there’s some charm in that, and the band seem eternally grateful to those who have made the journey, despite a tongue-in-cheek jibe of “everybody bring a friend next…
