The Danish folkers unearth fourth album, Drif, in August.

Denmark’s acclaimed dark-folk collective Heilung will release their fourth album, Drif, on August 7 via Season Of Mist. Following 2019’s acclaimed Futha, the band – Kai Uwe Faust, Christopher Juul and Maria Franz – convened at Copenhagen’s Lava Studios with producer/engineer Juul to work on the album. Once again, Drif sees them use organic-only sounds on pieces inspired by Northern Europe’s Iron Age and the history of the great, ancient civilisations, drawing on “Dark Age spell songs, Ancient Roman Army marching songs [and] a re-creation of the oldest annotated music in existence, the Hymn To Nikkal.” The word ‘Drif’ means ‘gathering’, ‘pack’, or ‘horde’ and the band say the title suited the album’s nine songs, which seemed to belong together: “This album has very clearly dictated its own path.
