Future Of The Sea Plank describe their first album in nine years as “a celebration of the power and majesty of our oceans and about how humankind is destroying them.” Who knows what they’ve been record, but whatever it was, they’ve come back re-energised and produced a fantastic modern prog album, one that references past masters – Floyd, Camel, King Crimson, etc – but sounds fresh and vital. In fact, it’s prog shorn of any unnecessary frilliness, dynamic and sense of purpose and velocity. Openerdouble-tracked picking that’s halfway between meditative and explosive, before deep blue swathes of keys and a soaring melody line release the tension. The synth-driven recalls neo-prog icons IQ and Pendragon at their best, though the band claim it’s inspired by Barry Manilow’s Mandy. There’s a Zombi…
