After the four-year gestation period of 2021’s A Vast Field Of Silence, Outrun The Sunlight have spent less time making the follow-up, a reinterpretation of their 2011 debut The Return of Inertia. The gleaming new versions fix any perceived issues relating to the primitively-recorded initial effort.
Thankfully, the baby hasn’t been thrown out with the bathwater. Still present is the vast, sonic canvas contrasting with harder-hitting moments, but the contrasts are even greater. The new take on Telencephalon epitomises the approach: the track sets up the echoing, interstellar mood replete with lingering harmonics, before juddering rhythms push the piece into overdrive.
