VENUE BUSH HALL, LONDON DATE 10/11/2024 SUPPORT SAIICHI SUGIYAMA It’s mid-afternoon on a grey, damp Sunday in west London, but such is the draw of iconic Dutch progressive trailblazers Focus that Bush Hall is absolutely heaving, even for the support set from veteran British-born Japanese singer-songwriter Saiichi Sugiyama and his band. Armed just with acoustic guitar, bass and fiddle, the four-piece combo deliver Saiichi’s occasionally hearty, often whimsical, sometimes quite ethereal folk-based songs to a receptive audience. The guitarist also features on lead vocals and there are some very pleasant two-part harmonies. There’s a warm, comforting quality about the material, which is ideally suited for hunkering down in this regal Edwardian dancehall and acting as a foil to the weather outside.
