Bananamour ESOTERIC Vinyl reissue of one of the Canterbury scene great’s most accessible LPs. The last of Kevin Ayers’ initial four solo LPs for Harvest, 1973’s Bananamour has an inside-cover photo that captures him in all his louche decadence. Dressed in a suave white dinner jacket, bottle of red to hand, he’s playing chess with phallus-shaped pieces carved from the yellow fruit in question. Bananamour? Kinky! Though quality control peaked a tad lower than on 1971’s Whatevershebringswesing, there’s still much to savour here, not least the short, whimsical Oh! Wot A Dream, Ayers’ Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band-like tribute to his friend Syd Barrett.
