Wire’s bassist Graham Lewis – recording as Edvard Graham Lewis – has revealed that the title of his new solo album Alreet, which is out on January 24 via Upp Records, isn’t so much sweetening the pill of the record’s ominous contents that include mortality and economic collapse as baiting a trap for the listener. “‘Alreet’ is like the North East’s version of the French ‘ça va’ – that you’re alright,” says Lewis. “I needed a title that was going to offset the album’s complete darkness.” He adds with a chuckle, “But it can mean lots of things.
