Myriad NUCLEAR BLAST Cosmic mood music from Swedish psych revivalists. Their second album finds Sweden’s Gaupa in unbridled, raucous form. Singer Emma Näslund’s swooping, fluttering voice is bound to invite some comparisons with Björk, but musically her band bear no resemblance to the Icelandic pop maverick. Instead, Myriad is a heavy psychedelic trip, with music to inspire uninhibited dancing around a fire beneath a clear night sky. Näslund can yowl and wail like a banshee, something she employs to great effect in Moloken, but she’s not limited to one style. In the excellent Ra, she keeps pace with the rest of the band as the song traverses through valleys of rumbling bass leading into a riff that threatens to bend time and space.
