Knifeworld keyboard player and multi-instrumentalist Emmett Elvin has steadfastly managed to avoid any easy labelling over his first three solo albums. Shaped by Covid lockdowns and personal upheavals, the varied songs and instrumentals that make up his fourth aren’t going to change this. Come What May begins a dreamy yet slightly dark slice of psychedelic pop, before it gets all loud and angry for a minute or so. Artificial Guitar is possibly the nearest thing to “hit” material, marrying strains of 60s pop with a spiky, new wave-leaning refrain.
