Like Satriani, Yuki and Seiji of D_Drive use the instrument in place of the human voice to express the melody and emotion of their music. However, where Satriani is all about that lead guitar, Dynamotive – tellingly released on the label set up by amp company Marshall – is more egalitarian. Bassist Toshi has moments in the spotlight, bringing some funk to Wings, and keeping pace with the guitars for the fast syncopated runs of Thumbs Up.
