“I THINK WE started in 2010?” laughs Ted Furuhashi, guitarist, backing vocalist and main songwriter for Australian prog metallers Circles, newly slimmed to a trio following the departure of bassist Drew Patton. The Compass, the band’s debut EP, was released in 2011 on Basick Records and since that time, Furuhashi doesn’t think the core foundation of Circles has shifted all that much. “We’re noticeably older,” he acknowledges with a smile. “Musically? I don’t think we’ve ever changed, to be honest.” As the songwriter for the band, Furuhashi has focused a lot of his time on working on himself as a creative, as well as learning how to let the rest of the band have ownership over the music. “The seeds of the idea are coming from more of a personal experience…
