Heavy Swedish art-rock quintet push at the edges of surrealism.

GAUPA WILL BE crashing onto UK shores in 2023, in part because there’s nowhere to play back home, according to singer Emma Näslund and bassist Erik Sävström. The sensational Swedish heavy art-rock five-piece hail from Falun, Sweden, an old mining city about three hours north of Stockholm. Falun has produced a glut of heavy rock acts in recent years – Sabaton, Twilight Force and Brothers Of Metal to name but several – though the irony is that there’s little outlet for all that ferocity. “Falun is not that good a town for the music scene because there aren’t a lot of places to play,” says Sävström on a Zoom call from his home in Sweden’s second largest city of Gothenburg. “And there are not a lot of rehearsal spaces, either,” adds…
