“Genre-varied” record due in January ahead of European festival shows.

Norwegian progressive rockers Madder Mortem have announced their first studio album in six years. Old Eyes, New Heart will come out on January 26 via Dark Essence. Lead single Towers is currently available on streaming services. Old Eyes… is dedicated to Jacob, the father of singer Agnete M. Kirkevaag and guitarist BP M. Kirkevaag, who suffered from an obstructive lung disease and died of colon cancer. It was written and recorded during his illness, and the cover is based on one of his paintings. “He was such a huge influence, musically: we grew up with him blasting Bach,” says Agnete. “It was hard watching my strong and wise dad become less and less able to take care of himself.
