I Was A Teenage Fanzine Editor

Prog’s Editor, Jerry Ewing, recalls his time at the helm of his very own 80s prog ’zine.

I started my own prog rock fanzine, Court Jester (I know, how apt!), in early 1983. I’d been to see Marillion at a couple of their now legendary Christmas Marquee shows in 1982, at which point I’d also discovered Solstice and Pendragon and, for me, as a 16-year-old rock fan who was just beginning to discover a whole new world of progressive rock, it was fascinating time full of wide-eyed wonder and discovery. I’d picked up a copy of Marillion’s newsletter, The Web, and read it on the train back home to Chorleywood. I remember my overriding thought being: “I could do something like this…” At that point my knowledge of fanzines was quite limited.
