Piano-playing Earth Mother’s very long-awaited sophomore release. While making a living as a “floral artist” and “storyteller”, this former fashion model from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania is also a pianist and songwriter specialising in Mike Oldfield-influenced instrumental reveries, and although it’s been 24 years since her debut album Beauty Gone Wild was released, she’s kept in touch with some notable musician friends, who assist her on Dreamed. The flute that decorates the Camel-esque opener Candlewink, played by erstwhile Steely Dan and Boz Scaggs sideman Gary Blu, enhances its bucolic feel. The lurched time signature that frames Waybright’s piano on Earth Rattle make for a beguiling sonic framework that’s increasingly enticing, then Blu’s clarinet adds welcome extra flavour.
